What do you do at Masaya Healing & Wellness Center?
Masaya and its parent company, Healthy U (www.the-healthy-u.com)
are medical practices which are staffed by licensed and
board-certified M.D. physicians. We are a primary care medical
clinic and wellness center, with a focus on prevention and an
emphasis on natural, non-drug treatments for your good health.
Every new patient receives a comprehensive examination, with
appropriate labs and screening tests to give you the most thorough
assessment of your personal health risks. Then, based on the
information we gather from your exam and testing, your assigned lead
physician will make recommendations for nutrition and fitness to
help you improve your health and longevity. Your lead
physician may also recommend vitamins and supplements to replenish
your body’s stores. While prescription drugs are not the first
line of treatment at our clinic, your lead physician may recommend a
prescription drug when he or she feels it is imperative to maintain
good health.
You’ll receive personalized, one-on-one care at our clinic and
wellness center. Our staff’s mission is to make sure that you
feel welcome here, and that you never feel rushed. You’ll
always have the opportunity to ask questions; you’ll also leave with
your lead physician’s special, HIPAA-secure e-mail address, so
that you can make direct contact whenever you need to.
At Masaya, we effectively integrate medically-sound and natural,
holistic solutions together in a safe, effective way to help you
change the future of your health.

What does “Masaya” mean?
“Masaya” (Mah-sye-AH) is the Philippine word for happiness.
We all strive for happiness in our personal and professional lives.
At Masaya, we believe that the best way to achieve that happiness
is to start with your health. With a healthy mind and body, the
happiness that we all seek will come much easier to us. That is
the reason for the name of our wellness center.

How is a wellness center different from a health club?
Most health clubs or gyms offer a list of fitness classes and
use of gym equipment for their members. Although they may
sell supplements and meal replacements at their facility, the focus
is usually on weight loss or building muscle mass. Usually
these facilities are run by non-medical personnel.
In contrast, health and wellness centers focus on helping their
members achieve a healthy lifestyle beyond just exercise.
Although fitness classes and gym equipment are available, wellness
centers can also offer nutrition classes and rehabilitation programs.
Many are hospital-based, and are typically staffed by dieticians,
physical therapists, and other health personnel.

What is a physician-directed wellness center?
A physician-directed wellness center is a health and wellness
center under the oversight of one or more physicians. Although
these can offer services similar to a regular health and wellness
center, the oversight by medical doctors gives these specialized
wellness centers an edge when it comes to preventing chronic
diseases.
Physician-directed wellness centers have a deeper understanding of
the pathophysiology of chronic illnesses, and are thus able to fully
focus on modifying health risks, managing chronic illnesses, and
helping to prevent injury – while also helping you lose weight,
build muscle mass, and achieve a healthy lifestyle.
Physician-directed wellness centers use a more holistic
(non-invasive, non-drug) approach to health and wellness; however,
because the providers are medical doctors, prescription drugs can be
used when absolutely necessary for your health.

5. How do you differ from
a gym, health club, or aerobic/yoga studio?
We are far different from a gym or health clubs for many reasons,
but the primary one is that we are not just a fitness facility – we
are a true physician practice, staffed with board-certified M.D.
physicians.
Our physicians are board-certified and fully licensed in the state
of Ohio, and have years of experience in providing direct patient
care; in addition to their M.D. degrees, they have additional
masters’ level training in public health and prevention.
Furthermore, our clinic is overseen by our medical director, who is
a M.D. graduate of The Ohio State University and is board-certified
in the specialty of Preventive Medicine. Our medical director is
also a certified personal trainer and a certified health coach.

6. How much do your services cost? Do you take
or accept insurance?
Masaya and its parent company, Healthy U (www.the-healthy-u.com)
are medical practices which are staffed by licensed and
board-certified M.D. physicians.
Our recommendations for nutrition, fitness, nutritional supplements,
and (when necessary) medications are legitimately covered by
insurance for certain health conditions, because they are
physician-directed treatments to prevent or manage disease.
The difference between our office and most other primary care
clinics is that at Masaya and Healthy U, prescription drugs are not
the first line of treatment. We are committed to working with
you to help you manage your health as naturally as possible, with
prescription drugs used only when absolutely necessary.
We accept most major insurance plans, including Aetna, Anthem,
Beechstreet, Cigna, Medical Mutual, Medicare, United Healthcare, and
others. Please contact us for details.
For those who do not have insurance or prefer not to use insurance,
the costs for our services are reasonable since self-pay patients do
not pay more than what insurance would reimburse.
